White River in Indiana

Trip Overview

We decided to take a day trip down White River and wanted to make it an easy day. We put in at Perkinsville, where "Paddle Indiana" by Alan McPherson said there was a access point. When we arrived there, there was a "No Trespassing" sign on the gate where you would enter from the road. This did not look like private property because it has a Verizon building located there. So, we just walked down the hill from the road and put in.

The river was moving at a pretty good pace due to the recent rains. The pace was a nice easy pace that you could stop paddling and still float down the river at a good pace. As we were going down the river, we came across a new access point, not indicated in the book, at Strawtown. DNR has provided boaters with a ramp and nice size parking lot. Directions to the access point is unknown at this time but we understand by just going into Strawtown, you can find the road to the parking lot.

We continued down river passing the next access point at SR 37 and Strawtown Road. It did not look like it would be an easy access from the road so it is recommended to look elsewhere.

There were several spots where the ripples were fun but nothing you need to be an experienced kayaker. We took out at Riverbend Campground where we parked the car. OBTW, don't leave your keys at the access point!!

We will definitely make this trip again, very quiet and only met one other boater until we arrive at the end of the trip where they like to jet ski.
