Weweantic River in Massachusetts

Trip Overview

Route 58 Carver to the Wareham Boat Ramp 195
We left route 58 in Carver, MA at 8am. We had gotten 5 inces of rain two days earlier, so we were paddling in the tree tops. We have done this trip many times before. Each time we have cut down more and more trees fallen by storms and high water. It takes about 2-3 hours at high water and 4-6 on low water. The main difference is many trees to go over.

This is really a trip for a younger very adventurous individual. Stay tuned the river is cutting cleaned up each time we go down cutting limbs in the way. This trip takes you under several main highways including 495, 195, Cranberry highway, route 28, etc. Following the flow of the river until you go under cranberry highway in Wareham when you come to a dam. We pulled out and went through a gate to the left of the dam following the chain link fence. We took a well defined path down to an old kids camp. You will see a large covered stage at the end of a dirt road. This is a great place for lunch before putting in on faster water.

When at high water, this part of the river is intermediate to advanced with minor rapids and drop offs. Follow the flow walk around another dam. Once you put in on the other side you are almost to the boat ramp off 195 in Wareham.

This trip ofers many wildlife views. There are also minor dams controlling the flow of the river throughout, with 1 foot drop offs you can go right over. This trip takes a solid part of a day from start to finish. Plenty of great quiet spots to camp. We plan on doing that this summer.
