Trip Overview

Canada's National Parks' "Rideau Canal" is a world.heritage site. Located on Upper Rideau (READ - oh) Lake, it's a good place to do a paddle tour. This is close to where water flows south and north. Hence, the locks are very useful. A conservation area is on north shore of the route to Ottawa. A hike trail follows above the waterway. You can buy passes for or portage the locks. The lake is quite scenic. Boat traffic causes most waves, but like any lake, storms can develop quickly. Staying just off shore is smart. Presented here is just out of the village, coming in to the dock. It gives a good impression of what the waterway is like. The village has a very good tourism office and website. Easy access to dining, washrooms, library, B&B, hotel, and so much more.

Portage Notes

Many portages or use the canal passes ($x / foot of boat). Canals have washrooms and National Parks staff. The area has lots to do for all members of the family.
