Western Lake and Gulf of Mexico at Grayton Beach State Park, Florida

Trip Overview

Paddled Western Lake at Grayton Beach State Park on the Florida panhandle. A lot of water lilies blooming. Paddled to the far end of the lake and onto an outlet to the beach at the Gulf of Mexico. Carried the kayak a short way across the beach and launched into the Gulf but it was much too choppy from the stiff breeze. Turned back, Had to get out and wade through the rough surf steadying the kayak to land on the beach safely. Paddling back on the inlet we crossed a shallow spot where the sand on the bottom was a gorgeous shade of red from the lake water running across the white sand.
