Trip Overview
A morning paddle on the flatwater sections of the West and East Branches of the Union River. We paddled up the W Branch as far as we could, about 1.6 miles and then down to the confluence with the E Branch. Then up the East Branch as far as we could go. We also poked into Rocky Brook until stopped by low water and a giant beaver dam. Then back down to the confluence and on to the take out where we had spotted a car on Morrison Farm Road. 11.7 miles and just under 4 hours. A beautiful Maine day, calm and sunny. This section of the river has very little development and the few houses or camps are quite far apart. We encountered only one fishing party descending the E Branch as we were ascending. The banks are muddy and the river is slow and relatively wide for a stream this size. Lots of Osprey.
Safety Notes
The low muddy banks could prove slippery otherwise nothing of note
