Weber River in Utah

Trip Overview

Weber River below the Rockport Dam

This is a fun little river of clear, cold water. There are many ripples and the water moves along, with very few slow water areas, but nothing you could call a rapid.

The put in we used at the base of the dam was not great but worked. There is a camp ground where we put in. Several times along the trip we rubbed rocks. Our take out was about 2 miles down to the first heavy road bridge near the freeway. There is a nasty little rapid just beyond the bridge where we took out.

The problem with our little adventure is there are at least 3 spots where a barbed wire fence crosses the river and we had to lay flat to slide under them. Also the river runs through private farms with several "No Trespassing" signs along the shore.

I plan to explore other stretches in the future. If anyone knows more of the Weber River between Rockport and Echo reservoirs let me know (e-mail: highlandparkphil@yahoo.com).

Accommodations:

Closest is Park City

Fees:

The "put in" is a campground with day use fees, however we stayed only long enough to "put in" and did not pay a fee.

Directions:

Just a mile or so east of Wanship (20 miles East of Salt Lake City) along I-80 in Summit County, UT.
