Wangaratta to Peechelba on the Ovens River

A self-supported trip created by All_Things_Outdoors

Trip Overview

The put in for this trip was at the Frank Garth Reserve in Wangaratta which has nice big beach area however there is no camping and no toilets. Travelling downstream for nearly a kilometre and then you come to a small dam and overflow which could be run at the right river level however it would most likely require a portage which can be done by following a gutter on the right hand side which leads to a tiny beach for re launching. This is a big day though as you cannot camp until reaching the Warby-Ovens National Park 32kms downstream at Frosts. You can camp here and there is a good beach area. The next day is a 20km paddle down to Peechelba at which point there is a take out spot but the bank is quite steep. Be prepared for long stretches of paddling as the banks are steep all along this section of the river with minimal places to stop.
