Trip Overview

Located near Kountze, Silsbee & Lumberton Texas, this is an Awesome Day Trip! Creek was +7' Higher than normal. Started @ the Hwy 418 and travel approx 5-6 hours downstream to Hwy 327 Bridge. The current was really strong, which allowed for relaxing while floating downstream, however maneuvering the creek was a good workout. This creek has a lot of sandbars for stopping & eating, camping, or just relaxing. There are several sloughs that you can paddle upstream while creek is high. You can fish, take pictures of wildlife, or just relax in the sun. I will be doing this trip again soon, but traveling farther downstream. There are canoe & kayak tours you can rent also. This is part of the East Texas Big Thicket Preserve.

Safety Notes

Really Strong current & undertow. Always wear your PFD. Avoid log jams & downed trees, as this can pin or flip a kayak or canoe.

Gear Notes

Camera for pics & videos. Fishing accessories for fishing. Camping gear for overnight. Water for hydration, Food if you hungry.

Conditions

Hot, Sunny, Low wind, High waters with strong current & undertow.

Portage Notes

Might have a few log jams in lower waters.
