Trip Overview

As the only public lake in Washington County, Veto Lake is an ideal spot for a beginner paddler. The Lake features a paved parking lot as well as concrete launch ramp. A nearby grassy area offers an easy slide in launch area. The lake is horse-powered restricted, so you will not have any wake issue. Man-made decades ago, the lake features several fingers that offer a few different routes. The most common route paddlers take is from the ramp paddle to the feeder stream at the far end of the lake. You will pass several road bridges before heading heading into the woods for a short distance. Out and back is about four miles. I've have seen a variety of wildlife around the lake including owl, beaver, deer as well a variety of birds, including Great Blue Heron.
