Trip Overview
Launched from South Street Launch Ramp on a Monday afternoon. Paid a $3 kayak launch fee at the office then parked at the far south end of the parking lot near the roller launch/dock. Paddled north under the bridge and ducked into one of the lagoons to check out the houses. I turned around and paddled past the launch and further south down the river past more houses, a campground, and shale cliffs. A few zealous ducks paddled up to my kayak in search of snacks! I did not paddle as far as the Route 2 bridge due to time constraints. The river is wide, flat, and lazy with very little current and no rapids. There is some boat traffic to be mindful of but south of the launch is a no-wake zone. This is a great beginner or recreational kayak. Flush toilet restrooms are available at the north end of the parking lot near the office.
