Trip Overview

An afternoon paddle (7.6 miles) on Tunk Lake from the Ramp on ME 182 to the South end and back. We checked out 2 of the 3 first come/first serve campsite offered on the lake by the Maine Bureau of Public Lands. A considerable portion of the shoreline is protected under State ownership as part of the Donnell Pond Public Lands.

Safety Notes

This is a big lake and attention is needed to the wind forecast if you are planning a paddle.

While a deep lake and remarkably clear there are substantial shoals and reefs that you need to look out for. Paddling too close to the shore will result in multiple rock strikes.

Gear Notes

CD Vision 14 and Stellar G14 S2 Excell

Conditions

Overcast in the 70's and calm when we started. The breeze picked up as expected to be 5 MPH from the SSE. We had about 20 minutes of rain on the paddle back to the launch point.
