Trinity River from Beach St.

Trip Overview

We parked in the lot of the Fort Worth Rowing Club. The gate down to the river was open when we arrived, but we were warned it would be locked shortly after 10am. The person I talked to said parking in their lot for the duration of our trip would be fine. We got started about 11 am. On the north side of the river off of Beach Street. From the parking lot there is a 5 minute walk down to the river. To go down river from here you have to walk down the 4ft stair stepped dam. At the bottom there's a ledge to stand on while you load into your boat. The water level was higher than average and made for a good paddle. The gauge says the CFS was about 130, which is well above the median. There were fair rapids throughout the 6.85 mile trip. The scenery was nice, but not varied. We didn't see any people the whole trip. Lots of trash and tires. There is a dam about a mile from Handley Ederville Rd that needs to be portaged. I got out of my kayak about 25 feet upstream and waded, leading my kayak. It's a little dicey dragging the kayak out of the water and reentering, I never felt like I was doing anything too dangerous. We used the south bank for portaging. About a mile down there's a large erosion barrier that we used as our get out point. This is the last suitable spot I saw to get out of the river before the dam. We parked at the dirt "lot" on the West side of Handley Ederville Rd, on the North side of the river.
