Topock Gorge on the Colorado River

Trip Overview

Topock Gorge on the Colorado River through Havasu National Wildlife Refuge near Needles California. Topock Gorge is the crown jewel of the 37,515-acre Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, the last remaining untouched natural portion of the lower Colorado River before it reaches the Gulf of California. Beautiful rock formations once we completed the 5 mile paddle downriver from the launch at Moabi Regional Park and reached the mouth of the Gorge. Explored a few beautiful back bays along the river. More and more motorboats as the day went on. Got a shuttle from the takeout at Castle Rock Bay by Dave at Jerkwater Canoe. Great guy, gave us really good directions to find the takeout point. We needed them as the entrance to the bay is narrow and hard to spot from the river. Long distance but fairly easy paddle with the current.
