thorpe bay to Yantlet Creek and back

Trip Overview

there was no wind for sailing at the club, fortunately I'd pre-empted this and put the valkyrie on the roof rack. Decided to paddle over to the Medway at around 11:30 and as there was no wind and no wave arrived surprisingly quickly at the west side of the medway and as the tide was still running in decided to paddle along to the Yantlet and have my sandwiches by the beacon. Tide was still running in so I thought I'd visit the old Crowstone beacon off of Westcliffe on sea before heading back. by the time I reached the Crowstone the tide had turned inshore and I decided to take advantage of this and go back out to round the pier, however despite being 20 minutes after predicted high tide it was still on the flood at the end of the pier, took the direct route back to thorpe bay, regardless and got back inside the moorings around 13:00. I checked my fitness watch and was only 500 strokes off of 20000 so decided to get the numbers up by paddling against the now ebbing tide to the bastion and back.

Gear Notes

food drink, phone, radio and usual safety gear and spare clothing. used a relatively small (to me ) flat blade lomo carbon paddle, surprisingly easy and efficient.

Conditions

high pressure, drizzle on the kent side of the estuary.
