Trip Overview

A gentle 8 ish mile paddle which is really more of a pub crawl by canoe. Comprising a run down the Cherwell to the Thames, up the Thames and onto the Oxford canal, finishing at the Plough Inn a short walk from where you started. Plenty of watering holes en-route including the Victoria Arms and The Cherwell Boat House, both with landing stages, access to the delights of the Cowley Road through Angel and Greyhound meadow at Magdelen bridge, short squirt up the Thames, around Osney Lock and along Sheepwash Channel to Castle Mill Stream. The an ultra short portage across the bank into the Oxford canal and a gentle paddle to the Plough assuming you can resist rthe temptations of the Old Book Binders, The Rickety Press, The Anchor and others that call to you along the way.

Safety Notes

Don't drink too much considering the number of hostelries within easy access of the route!

Gear Notes

pack your best drinking liver

Portage Notes

# 1 Punt rollers on Cherwell - more of a drag than a portage #2 Osney lock on Thames flight of steps and a couple of hundred feet #3 Castle Mill Stream to Oxford canal - about 12 feet!
