Trip Overview

A must see if you live in the Charlotte or Columbia area.

We put in at the Debutary Access area and canoed up to Stumpy Pond and the old Catawba River route. The reservoir was beautiful with only a few houses at the launch. The rest of the area we paddled was undeveloped and gorgeous.

It was a pretty easy paddle to the north tip of Hill Island where the rocks begin. We tied up our boat and headed out to explore the rocky stream. It takes a while but you can make your way up the stream hopping from rock to rock. We made our way up to a small waterfall and had some lunch. The rocks were beautiful and it was a blast exploring the old river bed. We were the only paddlers out there and a couple of fishing boats. This is a hidden gem!
