Trip Overview

Put in at Houlihan Park Ramp one hour before high tide. There are 2 ramps, one for putting in and one for taking out which is nice. Parking lot is free and has 2 port a potties. Turned left and kayaked until St. Augustine creek, turned left and entered the creek. Nice paddle, reviews said there would be lots of bird life, but did not see much in the mid-morning. There are some side channels to explore which are quiet and pretty. We scared one alligator that we did not see hiding in the grasses. He scared us as much as we scared him when he suddenly splashed in to the water fairly close to us. We exited the creek and continued paddling on the Savannah River. It was beautiful, calm and quiet. We will return and venture further up the river next time.
