We started off at 10:30am in Baxter Springs, KS, and ended where Spring River goes under Hwy 10 near High Winds Casino in Oklahoma around 4:30pm. The Spring River slows dramatically once away from Baxter Springs. We ended up having to paddle the last 5 miles or so because the river was flowing so slowly. I'd recommend a shorter float for first timers here, either from Baxter Springs to Devil's Promenade Bridge or from Devil's Promenade Bridge to Hwy 10. There are no other put-ins or take-outs in this area of the river. We saw few other people on the river, just a few in boats and at the landings listed above, and lots of fish jumping.
Gear Notes
Bring a pole if you like to fish. Also bring a hat, there's very little shade from the sun.
Conditions
The Spring River slows dramatically once away from Baxter Springs and is a very calm wide river. Being a slow wide river, there's no much shade along this route.
