Short Shallow Paddle on the Chicago River North (west) Branch

Trip Overview

  1. River Park upstream (west) to just past Pulaski Rd (1.5 miles)
  2. Return downstream (east) to River Park
  3. Downstream in main river (south) to Richard Clark Park
  • Very shallow on legs 1 and 2, upstream is difficult
  • Had to walk the kayak a short distance going upstream (leg 1)
  • Downstream was ok, but scraped the bottom
  • it is possible to go from the western part into the main part of the river, but you are scraping over the rocks
  • People live under the bridge
  • Some places have a foul sewage scent

Safety Notes

There is a water intake where the river goes north of foster on the east side of pulaski
