Trip Overview

The lake at Shawnee Mission Park is a 120 acre lake that can be used for boating, fishing and sailboarding. Maps of the lake and park are available at the park entrance. The lake can be accessed at many points. I put in at the boat dock, which was not busy on a Sunday morning. It is an easy and quiet paddle. There were several other kayaks on the lake and several fishing boats. I believe the lake is a no wake lake.

This lake is great if you live in the Kansas City area and are looking for a close place to paddle. Bring your barbecue and picnic in one of the many picnic areas after your paddle.

Fees:

No fees or permits for kayaking or canoeing on the lake

Directions:

SMP is located on 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee, KS. You can exit I-435 at W87th street and go west. Turn right on Renner Road. Drive a half mile and the park will be on your left hand side. Once in the park follow the signs to the boat dock.
