Trip Overview

Shaver Lake is a beautiful lake located 5,370 in the Sierras above Fresno, CA. The lake is surrounded by thick pines and granite rocks. It can be busy during the summer months with power boats and jet skis but there are plenty of out of the way coves for kayaking and fishing. Paddled is generally easy but the wind tends to whip up in the afternoon, making a touring kayak with a rudder desirable. Camp Edison campground is a beautiful fully-equipped private campground with a marina for an easy put in. Huntington Lake is 21 miles up the road at 7,000 feet but kayaking in this lake is nearly impossible when the winds are up ... a better lake for sailing!

Accommodations:

The town of Shaver Lake has a couple of small motels/B&B's and rentals cabins, as well as 3 campgrounds. Various restaurants, shops, and boat/kayak rentals are available.

Directions:

Take Hwy 168 out of Fresno.
