Shakedown Float

A self-supported trip created by Rollinwiththedavises

Trip Overview

Our first float in our new kayaks. We saw eagles, turtles, geese, ducks, trout, carp, catfish and blue herons. Dangerous non negotiable rapids just North of our put in. This part of Deer Creek includes deep slow floats and shallow rocky rapids that require some maneuvering. There is one tree down spanning the entire creek but you can float under it. The trip took us about 2 1/2 hours with a couple of short breaks. According to my plotting on Google Maps this trip was about 5 1/4 miles. For a longer float continue to Benjamin's Bridge or Churchville Tank Test Grounds on Route 136.

Safety Notes

Copperhead snakes do inhabit this area so be careful stepping into high vegetation on the stream banks.
