Sequatchie River

Trip Overview

When you want a convenient paddling destination close to Chattanooga this is worth a trip! While it doesn’t have rapids or breathtaking scenery it has plenty of solitude and easy paddling. Made for a great way to spend the day! This three mile stretch of slow moving river took us 2.5 hours as we lazily floated down. Plenty of places to pull off and take a break. It’s mostly shallow to waist high deep but the water is not very clear. Doesn’t matter because you’re out paddling and there’s no one around either to get in your way. The put in is off Old York Highway to the right—just past the Sequatchie utility station. Pull into grassy drive into what looks like a pasture and stay to the right and you’ll see the river access just past the solar panel station. The take out is easier to find as it’s in the parking area of the old Canoe the Sequatchie info center. There’s a drop box for your $3 parking fee.
