Trip Overview

This trip does not include the canal. There is easy entry (dirt ramp) into the river at Lock 60. Mont Clare PA. (Phoenixville) (http://www.schuylkillriver.org/Detail.aspx?id=128) I prefer this trip as it allows you do avoid Blackrock Dam just up river and requires only one portage. You will see multiple bird species including Blue Herons and Cardinal. You will paddle through the convergence of the Perkiomen and Schuylkill rivers, and pass through Valley Forge park. Betzwood is historic as well. This is a 3 -4 hour trip that ends at the ramp at Betzwood park. You will find the ramp on the left side of the river for exit. ( http://www.boatus.com/ramps/listing_detail.asp?slug=ramp/Betzwood-Boat-Ramp ) I hope the links help for directions here.

Portage Notes

There is a small man made drop as you approach the old railroad bridge in Oaks PA. The falls are not marked but you can hear them as you approach. When the river is low it is 2 feet high and when full you can potentially pass over. I have never tried it.
