Sangamon River in Illinois

Trip Overview

We put in on the Sangamon River in Mahomet right at the base of the foot bridge behind the Monicals pizza. It is best to use the north-west side of the foot bridge and you can drive right up to the foot bridge in the residential area.

We paddled for about 8 hours and made it to Lodge Park just north and east of Monticello. I thought it was a wonderful trip. There were challenging log piles to navigate around, three of which we had to portage around. The river was slow moving and I wouldn't recommend doing this route if the water was any lower.

There was a nice place to pull out at Centerville, but since things were going so nicely, we continued on to Crybaby Bridge Rd in the middle of Lodge park. You have better access to the road there by pulling out on the south bank just upstream of the bridge.
