Rogue River in Michigan

Trip Overview

My buddy and I decided to take a day trip down the Rogue River. I was eager to get out on the water after buying my new kayak the day before. The are several very convenient locations for drop off and pick up in the area. To start we drove up to 12 mile road where it crosses the river. There is a nice spot to park your car and enter the river.

It was a very pleasant day, about 80 deg. and sunny. Plenty of wildlife including deer, geese, trout, ducks and herons. We paddled at a pretty laid back pace and it took us approximately an hour and a half to get to the dam in Rockford.

We hadn't done this before but just by looking on google maps I was confident we could successfully portage around the dam. The easiest way was to stay to the right and just before the dam there is a bench where we got out. We each grabbed an end of our kayaks and walked from there, crossed the road and found a nice spot to get back in. From there to our destination at Rogue River Rd. was about another hour and a half.

There were a few semi challenging areas with down trees, shallow water and large rocks but for the most part a pretty nice, easy and relaxing trip.
