Trip Overview

Below the dam at Rockford is the best place to put in if looking for a short trip (2hrs.) About 45mins downriver the site of the old Chilsdale dam (if you take the right side) has some good standing waves and a sharp 90 degree left hand turn with very fast current. The outer bank along this corner seems to be lined with asphalt. There are also a few other isolated sections of rapids, fast current, downed trees, and rocky areas. The river empties into the Grand River and on your left hand side is the best takeout spot. You will pass a few hick shacks and there it is. This is the park located SW of the intersection of East Beltline/West River Drive. There is plenty of parking at both spots.
