Rock River in Wisconsin

Trip Overview

We paddled on the Rock River, Put in at Hwy B, easy access to river from the county park boat launch. Went upstream four miles in slow current and into a good headwind. Turned around and floated back to launch with the wind at our backs. This was the best padling we have done because it required little effort to get back.

We saw fish, turtles, muskrats, all kinds of birds. Just a couple of speedboats went by us, and they slowed down to no wake as they passed. The river averaged 4-5 feet deep and caused no problems for us. Not to many places to pull up to shore to relax.

Accommodations:

restrooms at the county park, that's all

Fees:

none

Directions:

From Milwaukee: take 94 West to Madison, exit at Hwy 26 and go South to next stoplight. Turn west on B for 4-5 miles, go over the bridge and the boat launch is on the left side.
