USGS 02034000 RIVANNA RIVER AT PALMYRA, VA- 150 CFS- 2.8 Feet

We dropped a truck off at the Palmyra boat landing around 745am and got to Crofton boat landing and in the water around 8am. The river was running a bit low but I had just bought a new boat from Appomattox River Company and wanted to try it out. We had a lunch to get to by 1pm and thought we would have plenty of time to float the 6 miles or so. We were only have right. We got to the first S curve and realized we were a bit behind the time we need to be. We ended up paddling the remaining 3.5-4 miles. There are a few fun little sets of Class I rapids when it is flowing this low. I had to get out of the boat and walk on two sections and my wife only had to get out once. The water was clear and we saw an amazing amount of wildlife. We chased a Bald Eagle down the river for about a mile. Saw quite a few hawks. Smallmouth bass were throughout the river. This is a section I had not fished but I could imagine you could easily spend all day on this section. Saw a 30-36 inch flathead catfish followed closely by a 24 inch flathead. There were turtles sunning throughout the river. After you pass the beach for Pleasant Grove Park, you are almost to the landing at Palmyra. There is a fun little Class II rapid right before the landing.

The landing at Crofton is concrete and the takeout at Palmyra is a concrete ledge with shallows and a slip to pull your boat up on.
