Pyrford Lock explore

A self-supported trip created by paddler2605538

Trip Overview

First SUP outing in a long time. Headed off toward Ripley to see how far we could manage. Made it to the lock just after the Tannery, then turned around to make it back to The Anchor pub for our lunch booking. They allowed us to park there in the morning, no payment required. Very busy pub, so best to book for lunch if you're planning on it. Space to store boards on the towpath side next to outdoor dining tables. Very pleasantly long morning, on a very popular route. Plenty of walkers and narrow boats. No other paddlers. Left at 0945, back by 1230. No rush, but slightly windy at some points on the return journey. Nothing too stressful.

Conditions

Quite windy in some spots. You cross through a marshland area, so it's more exposed there. Very leafy the rest of the way, with a pathway running alongside the canal the entire route.

Portage Notes

Easy exit and re-entry at a lock. No problems and plenty of space for boats as you move in and out of the water
