Pow Wow River & Lake Gardner in Massachusetts

Trip Overview

Put in is at the Town Beach off High Street beside an earthen dam. Gardner Lake is a small calm lake heavily wooded on the eastern side and residential on the west. The opposite end of the lake begins the Pow Wow River which is as nice and pretty as New England has to offer. After paddling upriver for perhaps an hour and a half, there's a short portage to Tuxbury Pond and from there into Lake Attitash. How far you go depends on how much time you have to spend.

Accommodations:

Generous, free parking lot. Put in is to the right of the swimming area. No outboards over 5 hp.

Directions:

Route 95 or 495 into Amesbury. From the Police/Fire Department: Left at the rotary, Bear right onto Whitehall Road. High Street will be on your right. After crossing the Lower Pow Wow the Town Beach sign will be on the left.
