Trip Overview

Very scenic, peaceful and quiet paddle. 2.6 miles from Steger Road bridge over Plum Creek put in to Forest Park Drive take-out. About two hours with paddling for direction, not speed, and plenty of stops for pictures. . A couple log jams at this time to portage around. Must be paddled within several days after rains. Summer dry-time would probably result some spots with insufficient water level.

Safety Notes

May have mosquito issue in summer. Take repellent. Wear shoes.

Gear Notes

Used a single sit-on-top kayak. Canoe not recommended.

Conditions

Water is turbid when the flow is good. Banks can be muddy. There are sand-bars to rest at or grab a snack.

Portage Notes

Number and severity of log jam portages is variable depending on seasonal rains and flood events. The log jam portages are less than 30 yards.
