Pine Creek in Pennsylvania

Trip Overview

With Pine Creek at 1.89 feet according to the gauge at Cedar Run, set out from Ansonia launch in two Old Town Kineo 169 canoes. Since we were only going to Blackwell 17 miles downriver, we were packed light. I would say we had just enough water to make it. Kayakers we spoke with suggested that they experienced more difficulty than we did as they sat lower in the water. With the large canoes, we sat on the water more than in it and consequently managed to avoid hiking for the most part, though there were a few spots we had to get out. On the other hand, we were subject to the stiff breeze coming up the canyon and at points had to paddle more than we wanted to in order to overcome that impediment.

Directions:

The shuttle from Ansonia to Blackwell is via Wellsboro and goes quite a roundabout distance since one must circumnavigate the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania.
