Pinckney State Recreation Area in Michigan

Trip Overview

This is a great place to go for an afternoon or morning. On a recommendation, six of us in three canoes went to South Lake for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. There is a concrete boat launch and dock so take care not to scrape boats up.

The lake is pretty shallow and reedy around the edges and there were a group of about 20 sandhill cranes that were making quite a racket. There is also access to Eagle Lake through a small windy channel. It will take about an hour to paddle around the entire lake, but there are a number of other lakes in the area.

Accommodations:

There is an outhouse and parking lot at the access site.

Fees:

Since its a State Park you are supposed to have a car pass.

Directions:

From US-23 get off at N. Territorial (exit #49) and head west to Joslin Lake Road. Joslin is a dirt road that hits at an angle and only goes north. Stop when you reach the public access boat launch.
