Trip Overview

We put in on Piledrive slough at the Eielson AFB property line, where the sign is. This would be on the Northwest side of the Richardson Hwy. We pulled out at the Eielson Farm Loop road cross over. The water was high enough that no dragging took place however if not observant you could drag in a few spots. This water is class 1 minus, lol. Just a gentle current for the most part. Saw lots of wildlife, but the Grayling fishing was slow. This trip takes around three hours with frequent stops to let my son explore the surroundings. Beautiful water with no motorboat access. Canoes and kayaks do best, but I have taken a 11ft raft down it in the fall and spring.

Accommodations:

Port-a-potties and picnic tables at takeout.

Directions:

Head south on Richardson Hwy from Fairbanks, AK. Turn right at the Eielson AFB property sign on the dirt road. You have not yet entered the base property so no permit is needed. The pickup is about two miles prior to this off of Eielson farm loop road about 1/4 mile down, cant miss the slough. Take out on the downriver side of the culverts as they are large enough to float thru, and a blast for the kids to go thru.
