Trip Overview

Trip from Michigan to Maine included a couple of days paddling on Pigeon Hill Bay. Launched at a boat ramp on Pigeon Hill Rd. a few miles before the road gets to the Petite Manan National Wildlife Refuge. It was my first ocean kayak expedition and I was a bit concerned due the water level changed 13 feet between low tide and high tide.

I paddled down along the shoreline to the NWR then across the bay and around the back side of Bois Bubert Island. A storm came up which chased me back to the mainland.

Only person I saw was a friendly local resident rowing back from checking his lobster traps. When he found out this was my first trip to Maine he gave me two live lobsters as a welcoming gift. Boiled them that night. Delicious!
