Overnight Kayak trip

Trip Overview

Put in at Baptist at around 9:00AM SAT. Went very slow and fished, and we stopped alot. We ended up covering the first 4.5 miles day one. Camp was set by 6pm on the river and we called it a day. Got back on by 9:30AM SUN and finished up. All 4 paddlers destroyed rainbow trout both days mostly from 9:30 to 11:30 with fewer caught outside that window.

Safety Notes

Still many sweepers and strainers in the water from recent flooding. Exercise extreme caution around these obstacles, A 13 YO kid was killed recently on the Jacks Fork by being pulled into some streamers and trapped. If in doubt pull off and walk it out.

Gear Notes

Less is more take only what you need, will use, and can carry, consider the length of time on the water.

Conditions

Water level is fairly stable in the upper unless days of heavy rain are seen, water clarity is almost always crystal clear (6-10 feet visibility) Very healthy Rainbow and Brown Trout populations. 20 or more fish expected on a good day with right tackle (best best for spinning rods are rooster tails- white, chartreuse, olive, rainbow trout colors)

Portage Notes

If you continue on past Cedar Grove you will have to portage due to the low water bridge across the river
