We did an out and back from the new Phoenix st launch. Current is slow enough to easily paddle both directions. We headed North and turned around at the 71 1/2 st bridge. To the bridge and back was about 5 miles. Trees and branches to maneuver around but there was always a clear path. River is somewhat shallow at 1-2 ft.
