Trip Overview

The Otselic River was a joy to paddle. Putting in at DEC access point slightly north of Willet, we were able to unload and launch our kayaks no problem. The water started swift due to recent rains but quickly widened and slowed down.

Cutting through pasture and deep forest, with minimal views of houses or roads, the float offered true intimacy with nature. Some great deep stretches offered great swimming and fishing opportunities along with some nice areas to stop and watch the many deer, beavers, fish, and birds.

We never bottomed out but there were some sides that may cause portage later in season. Also, it looked like some nice picnic area's on West shore 2/3's of the way downstream.

About 12 miles of great stream and took about 6 hours taking our time. Check it out!
