Ocean Bound

A self-supported trip created by Longtrailahead

Trip Overview

This trip, started at a wonderful launching site, located just off of Ramshorn Dr., and below Lakewood-Allenwood Rd. The plan, was to follow along some back waterways, before entering into the Manasquan River, Inlet, and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean. On a wonderful fall October day, there was much to see and enjoy throughout the entire trip. I used a 17"+ kayak on this journey.

Safety Notes

There was plenty of boater/marine vessel traffic in & around the Manasquan River, Inlet, and Atlantic Ocean. The use of a handheld marine VHF radio, will greatly help in order to be kept informed of all important communications.

Gear Notes

A kayak of longer length, as well as one equipped with a spray skirt, is highly recommended. The usage of a PFD, is just plain old commonsense okay?

Conditions

The tidal waters of the Manasquan River, Inlet, and the Atlantic Ocean can be challenging and unpredictable. Having properly amassed the right kayaking skills, can greatly reduce any potentially dangerous conditions, and or situations that might possibly arise, when making such a trip such as this.
