Occoquan River in Virginia

Trip Overview

We had my wife drop us and our canoe off where the Occoquan River crosses Prince William County Parkway. There was a nice flat spot to put in on the west side of the road, but it looked like it was possibly private property.

As the canoe slipped in the water we quickly realized we were in for a long trip as the river flow was extremely slow. As we paddled down river the area was amazingly quiet with a few turtle and crane sightings. As we crossed under Davis Ford Rd more and more fishing boats started showing up, with only a few giving us trouble with their wake.

Once we neared Fountainhead Regional Park, the water got a little choppy due to all the water traffic, but cleared up once we pulled away.

We pulled the canoe out at Lakeridge Marina. The trip was very uneventful and quite a workout in a canoe! Total trip length was 10.3 miles and 3 hours.
