Trip Overview

North Chickamauga Creek is a deep, wide, flatwater creek that ends at the downstream side of the Chickamauga lock on the Tennessee River. It is protected by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. It makes for an enjoyable and easy day of paddling. I do not know how far a person can go. I have made it a few hours upstream and had to turn around because of worsening weather. This is one of those places where you feel that you are much farther away from civilization than you really are.

Accommodations:

You are inside Chattanooga city limits and a couple of miles from anything you would need.

Directions:

North side of Chickamauga Dam on the Tennesee River. Located on Tennessee Highway 153.

Launches:

One: There is a parking area and prepared access to the water at the downstream end of the Chickamauga Lock.

Two: Up the street from the first parking area, at the entrance to the lock facility by road, there is a bird sanctuary across the street. It has parking and prepared access to the water.
