Nice park and nice paddle

Trip Overview

Launch was narrow and rocky. A launch mat was installed, but easily littered with gravel/rocks. Mangrove tunnels connecting open water areas. We saw two iguana and several birds but no manatee or dolphin. We paddled about 2.8 miles, out and back. Lightly busy in the mangrove tunnels with several other paddlers, mostly in kayaks rented at the park. Lots of parking available in the park and less than 10% occupied, based on available parking. Bathrooms were clean and easily accessible. $6.00 per car park fee, but well worth the cost. Access to the park, driving in from the west, was horrendous with traffic congestion arriving and departing. We'd like visit the park again, based on its merits, but probably would choose to paddle elsewhere, because of the traffic congestion problem.

Conditions

Partly cloudy, light breeze, 85 degrees.
