Neponset River in Massachusetts

Trip Overview

We did a short trip on the upper part of the Neponset River, from Norwood to Canton. The first part of the trip was very scratchy, and we walked our kayaks about half the time. This section of the river is probably a lot nicer in the spring when the river is higher. The only wildlife we saw was lots of old tires and shopping carts.

The second part of the trip was nicer with deeper water, no (visible) tires or shopping carts, and some turtle sightings. In the future I would probably put in at our take-out point.

Accommodations:

Put-in is hard to find if you don't know what to look for. Once you find the parking lot, you go to the far corner, where there is canoe-launch sign. Take-out is a little easier to find, because there is a sign on the road, and on weekends there is a trailer there with canoes to rent.

Fees:

None.

Directions:

Put-in was the first left off of River Ridge Road, which is off of the North-bound side of Route 1 in Canton. Take-out was on Neponset St. in Canton just East of Rte 95, before the Sunoco station.
