Mystic River in Massachusetts

Trip Overview

A nice, relaxing Sunday afternoon trip. We live across the street from the Mystic so we just carry our kayaks over and put in by the bridge where Rt 60 crosses over. You can park on the side street but no over night parking.

Traveling downstream you will see turtles, heron, ducks, swans, fish jumping etc. We traveled down past the Riverside Yacht Club where the river really gets wider and traveled as far as Station Landing. Roughly 3.5 miles downstream from our put in. We turned around after taking a little break and headed back upstream.

All told: 7 miles and roughly 4 relaxing hours on a sunny Sunday with plenty of wildlife all around to see and photograph.

Directions:

Off Rt 2 head east on Rt 60. Once you cross over the Mystic River take immediate right and park on the side of Mystic River Rd in West Medford. Right at the put in area there is a Restaurant called Joe Pizza and Giles Liquors
