Myakka Gator Paddle

A self-supported trip created by spudpotatohead

Trip Overview

Paddled at Myakka State Park - putting in at the bridge then paddling down to the Lower lake to ‘The Big Hole’.
Saw 30 Gators along the shore and in the water on the paddle down. Winds picked up when the river opened up to the lake, making hard work fighting the crosswinds in my Oru. Water levels were high so only about a half dozen gators at the hole.

Paddled back to the take out and passed by more big boys and a turtle or two. Saw one wee gator.
visited the Pink Gator Cafe at the upper lake afterwards. The regular place is going under storm Renos so they had a trailer there instead, churning out fried gator bites which were very tasty, although very pricy for a small amount.

All in all, a good day out.

Safety Notes

Give wildlife space

Conditions

Twas windy when the river opened up to the lake; otherwise smooth sailing.
