Mountaintown Creek (Hwy 282) to Carter’s Lake

A self-supported trip created by paddler808539

Trip Overview

We left our house which is just past the HWY 282 bridge over Mountaintown Creek at 8:43am, joined the Coosawattee River at 10:26am, and arrived at the Ridgeway Recreation Area boat ramp at 12:43pm. Mountaintown Creek was lovely this morning and we saw geese and herons along the way. There were two fallen trees across the creek but we were able to duck and paddle under them both. We enjoyed the Class II rapids near the end of Mountaintown Creek. We paddled up stream to the waterfall on the right after joining the Coosawattee River, splashed in the cold water, took some photos and rested our arms. The remaining lake paddle to the boat ramp with tired arms was pretty tough, but we were happy to accomplish our goal of paddling to Carter’s Lake! We are a mom and son duo with some paddling experience. Verizon cell service worked on this trip so we were able to let our ride know when to meet us.
