Trip Overview

This trip can be done in two days but I would recommend at least three or more. This river is made up of quiet river lakes as well as some whitewater. The trip is unique in many ways. For one it makes a complete circle back to your starting point, also the view is superb. My trips are all made on a pretty slender shoestring and you might not have fun that way so I will just point you in the right direction. The trip starts on the river between Wood and Attean ponds. Paddle upriver into Attean pond keep to the right shore that is where you will find the campsites. Be aware that sudden weather changes are the norm for the area. Paddle to the western end of the lake and you will find the portage trail. The trail is 1.25 miles, do yourself a favor and leave the portage dolly at home and pack light. The party ahead of us saw a bear in the trail but we missed it. Holeb pond seems more remote than Attean pond. Campsites can be found at the end of the trail. Paddle to the western end of Holeb keep to your left and you will find Holeb stream. This could be a maze; just follow the main flow of water and it will bring you to the Moose. Set your own pace and the Moose will bring you right back to Attean. You will have to portage Holeb falls a 30 foot drop not to mention a sight worth the whole trip. Depending on water level and the skill of your party you may portage Spencer rips and Attean falls if you like.
