Monches to Loew Lake

A self-supported trip created by paddler382602

Trip Overview

Super easy paddle on this novice-friendly river. About 3 miles from the launch up to the lake. One small bridge you might be able to sneak under depending on your boat and water levels. If you can't it's an easy portage on the east bank. The lake is fairly small and is surrounded by hills, so the entire route is very protected. There is only one house to be seen, just upstream from the launch. There's a small picnic spot on the West Bank just upstream from that. Otherwise not many signs of civilization. Depending on the day and the weather you might have the river entirely to yourself.

Safety Notes

Highway 83 at the launch is pretty high speed and not very wide. Watch kids, car doors, and dogs along it.

Gear Notes

You'll see everything from day trippers to inflatables to canoes and SUPs. Water is flat and super calm. River is only a few feet deep in most places. Lake is deeper.

Portage Notes

A small bridge. If you have a low boat and are flexible you might be able to get carefully under. If not there's decent landing on the east bank. Total portage is just a few steps.
