Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island

Trip Overview

I went to westerly Rhode Island to paddle and came across this salt water pond right across the street from "Misquamicut Beach." I launched my kayak in back of a bait and tackle store(free parking).

If you paddle to the right you end up in the ocean. Going to the left you come to this large pond. The only boats that you'll see there at low tide are kaykers(we were the only ones there kayaking that day).

At high tide a few jet skiers and small motor boats going through. The boaters have to know the water there due to the water not being high at all even at high tide. Some pockets maybe 5 ft at high tide.

The water was so clear that you were able to see the bottom. Saw lots of horseshoe crabs swimming around. Beautiful houses along side of this pond. Stopped to talk to a few people to which were very nice.

The big thing there at low tide were people claming; at high tide it was fishing. I spent 5 hours paddling in this pond and it was well worth the trip!

You can use the bathrooms in any restaurant.

Fees:

Parking was free in back of the ice cream store and the bait and tackle store(I had gone inside the store to ask about the parking).

You'll pay $10-15 at the beach parking

Directions:

95 north to Misquamicut Beach exit(westerly rhode island).

Follow signs to the beach. When you get on the main road to the beach, you'll take a left , the beach will be on your right.
Follow to the end of the road. The pond is on the left hand side directly across from the beach.
You can find parking on the left at the ice cream shop or the bait and tackle store which is at the end of the road (as a land mark--you'll pass the playground on your right and you'll pass the water slides on your left).
